Apple Annual iPod Event on September 9

August 31st, 2009

Apple has sent out invitation to its annual iPod event which is on next Wednesday Sep 9 at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater in San Francisco.

Apple Ipod Event sep 9

The invite features Apple’s standard iPod silhouette graphic with the text “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it”. We are certain to see new generations of iPod players, the following are some rumors for this annual event:

  • New iPod touch featuring camera. Some site even speculate the iPod classic to get a camera too.

  • The Beatles catalog on iTunes. It is probable as The Beatles is set to re-releasing its entire catalog and the game The Beatles:Rock Band next week.

  • Possible introduction of iTunes 9 with social networking features.

It is unlikely that Apple will reveal its rumored tablet device at an iPod event. We expect Apple to hold a special event to unveil a new product range.

Google Offers More Than One Million Public Domain Books in EPUB Format For Free Download

August 27th, 2009

Google Books announced in its blog post the availability of its over one million public domain books archive in EPUB format, in addition to existing PDF format.

By adding support for EPUB downloads, we’re hoping to make these books more accessible by helping people around the world to find and read them in more places. More people are turning to new reading devices to access digital books, and many such phones, netbooks, and e-ink readers have smaller screens that don’t readily render image-based PDF versions of the books we’ve scanned. EPUB is a lightweight text-based digital book format that allows the text to automatically conform (or “reflow”) to these smaller screens. And because EPUB is a free, open standard supported by a growing ecosystem of digital reading devices, works you download from Google Books as EPUBs won’t be tied to or locked into a particular device.

Adobe Not Testing Creative Suite 3 On Snow Leopard

August 26th, 2009

We bet there are still many Adobe Creative Suite 3 (CS3) users running Mac OS X 10.5. The bad news is Adobe CS3 and earlier version have not been tested to run on Snow Leopard. Adobe is asking CS3 users to upgrade to the latest CS4 (retail at $699.99) if they want to run the new Snow Leopard operating system which Apple is releasing tomorrow.

John Nack, principal product manager for Photoshop at Adobe, wrote on his official Adobe blog announcing the availability of Adobe document on Adobe Creative Suite and Mac OS X Snow Leopard compatibility:

Apple and Adobe have worked closely together (as always with new OS releases) to test compatibility. As for CS4, everything is good with the exception of auto-updates to Flash panels (which I guarantee you’re not using*) and Adobe Drive/Version Cue (which doesn’t work at the moment on 10.6). CS3 & earlier haven’t been tested. Please see the FAQ for additional info.

Adobe CS4 apparently does not require any product upgrade to run on Snow Leopard. But for older version of Adobe Create Suite such as CS3 or Macromedia Studio 8, Adobe has this to say:

Older versions of Adobe creative software were not included in our testing efforts. While older Adobe and Macromedia applications may install and run on Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6), they were designed, tested, and released to the public several years before this new operating system became available. You may therefore experience a variety of installation, stability, and reliability issues for which there is no resolution. Older versions of our creative software will not be updated to support Mac OS X Snow Leopard (v10.6).

Something Not So Right About Google Calculator

Something not so Right About Google Calculator

Apparently one quadrillion is too much for Google’s calculator. Beside 999999999999997, you get the same 0 result if you minus with 999999999999998.

Well if you add a ‘1′ digit in front of the number, you get the 0 result early, starting from 1999999999999994:

1999999999999999 – 1999999999999994 = 0

1999999999999999 – 1999999999999995 = 0

1999999999999999 – 1999999999999996 = 0

1999999999999999 – 1999999999999997 = 0

1999999999999999 – 1999999999999998 = 0

If you increase the number further, you get the 0 result earlier further:

2999999999999999 – 2999999999999991 = 0

2999999999999999 – 2999999999999992 = 0

2999999999999999 – 2999999999999993 = 0

2999999999999999 – 2999999999999994 = 0

2999999999999999 – 2999999999999995 = 0

2999999999999999 – 2999999999999996 = 0

2999999999999999 – 2999999999999997 = 0

2999999999999999 – 2999999999999998 = 0

For ‘3 series’, the 0 result starts with 3999999999999988 and for ‘4 series’ it is 4999999999999985.

Interesting if someone could reveal the algorithm used for this faulty calculator. Hope Google can correct it asap.

Introduction to Markup Languages For The Web

August 21st, 2009

When you are writing for the web, such as blog posts or comments on forum, it is a good idea to learn the basic of HTML. HTML is the markup language for web pages, it is the formatting language understood by web browsers. Writing using HTML is not as easy as using a word processor such as Pages or MS Word for text formatting but it is simple enough for most computer users. Nonetheless there are alternative markup languages other than HTML that aims to make writing for the web even easier.

HTML basics

  • To denote a paragraph, you enclose the text with the open tag <p> and closing tag </p>, for example

<p>The PlayStation 3 Slim gaming console from Sony Computer Entertainment is not only smaller and cheaper, but adds hardware enhancements that make it speedier, including a new Cell microprocessor.</p>

  • For headers, you use the tags <h1>, <h2>, <h3>..etc and end the heading text with respective closing tags </h3></h2></h1>,,…etc.

<h2>Third episode of new season’s Mad Men leaks out</h2> <p>The third episode of the Emmy-winning drama’s new season was briefly made available by mistake to holders of an iTunes Season Pass on Tuesday evening.</p>
