Apple will launch its MobileMe service this Wednesday July 9 sometime between 6pm and 12am PST, according to a notice posted in the ‘system status’ column on the .Mac support site.
Apple announced the .Mac revamp in June during Apple Worldwide Developers Conference and rebranded it MobileMe. The new MobileMe retains many .Mac features, such as mail, calendar, contacts and online storage, with a new emphasis on push services to sync MobileMe contents with your computer and iPhone. .Mac features dropped from MobileMe include web access to bookmarks, slides, iCards and sync with OS X 10.3.
7/9/2008, 6pm-12am PT
As part of the MobileMe launch, www.mac.com will be taken offline at 6pm PT on Wednesday, July 9th.
Members will be unable to access www.mac.com or any .Mac services during this time with the exception of .Mac Mail accessed via a desktop application, iPhone, or iPod touch.
MobileMe will be available as soon as possible during this maintenance window.
MobileMe includes a new @me.com email address for subscribers. Existing .Mac subscribes will be provided with the new @me.com, while existing @mac.com email account will continue to work. Some .Mac users have reported that they are now able to send and receive @me.com emails.
Apple has published a ‘.Mac to MobileMe transition FAQ’ article to guide you to get started with the transition to MobileMe.
