Goodbye BlackBerry, Hello iPhone

Britain based international bank Standard Chartered is changing its standard corporate communications device from BlackBerry with iPhone. A move that could result in thousands of its bankers using iPhone for mobile communication. It is a group-wide initiative involving wholesale and consumer banks globally for Standard Chartered.

This high profile move by a globally bank signals the acceptance of iPhone in corporate IT. It is a good step for Apple but a tough market for Apple to crack. The fact is BlackBerry is well entrenched in the corporate world for being the mobile communications device of choice for staffs to access their office email and sync their contacts, notes and calendar while on the move. Any migration to a different standard or device in the corporate world will take a long time as companies do their own internal testing before deciding to change. It is unlikely that there will be massive switch from BlackBerry to iPhone. Some banks such as Singapore’s Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp, is offering staffs the choice of BlackBerry or iPhone.
