Here’s our predictions on what Apple will announce for their ‘Back to the Mac’ media event at 10AM PT on October 20:
- Next version of Mac OS X. Judging from the lion image for the invite logo, it is likely we will see Mac OS X 10.7, instead of a brand new OS branding such as the rumored iOS for Mac. Apple will give a preview of new features in Mac OS X 10.7, which is expected to be released during the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2011.
- We predict Mac OS X 10.7 will bring the iOS touch interface framework to Mac OS X, paving the way to future Mac to be touch enabled. There will be some effort by Apple to make it easier for developers to port their iOS apps to Mac OS X 10.7.
- Next generation MacBook Air. Apple is likely to unveil its MacBook Air refresh at this event. It is rumored that new MacBook Air is a brand new Unibody design and will consist of a new 11.6 inch model in addition to 13.3 inch model. The new MacBook Air is expected to have attractive pricing as Apple seeks to boost its lackluster sales for current MacBook Air model.
- iLife ’11 and iWork ’11. Apple is expected to unveil new version of its iLife and iWork suite of software. Both were last updated January 2009.
