Microsoft has announced that it will continue to provide updates to its security products for Windows XP through July 14, 2015. The security products include Security Essential for consumers, and System Center Endpoint Protection, Forefront Client Security, Forefront Endpoint Protection, Windows Intune for the enterprises.

To help organizations complete their migrations, Microsoft will continue to provide updates to our antimalware signatures and engine for Windows XP users through July 14, 2015. This does not affect the end-of-support date of Windows XP, or the supportability of Windows XP for other Microsoft products, which deliver and apply those signatures.

The over 12-years old Windows XP remains end-of-life on April 8, 2014. Microsoft is extending the security support due to a tricky situation as over 20% of its installed base is still on Windows XP. This announcement in essence extends the usable life of Windows XP for an additional 15 months.
