VLC, the popular open source media player has updated its iOS release to version 1.1. Originally an iPad release only, VLC Media Player for iOS is now a universal binary for all iOS platforms: iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.
Besides updated for iPhone and iPod touch, version 1.1 also brings faster decoding and allows the deletion of media files directly from within the app. iTunes is still required to bring your media files into the app on your iOS devices.
The People’s favorite open source and free media player on the Mac OS X has made it to the iOS world. [VLC Media Player](http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vlc-media-player/id390885556?mt=8) is now approved and live on the App Store. Interestingly, there is now a new and different icon from its OS X sibling. Will we see a port for the iPhone/iPod touch soon?

People’s favorite open source media player VLC has a new version 1.1.0 release. Among the notable new features are enhanced HD support, 64-bit for Mac OS X, Google WebM codec and extensions framework allowing scripting via Lua language.
With this release, VLC removes its SHOUTcast functionality due to “license incompatibility”. The release notes has a lengthy explanation on the reasons of the removal. With the built-in extension framework, we supposed it will be just a matter of time before you see a SHOUTcast extension to bring the feature back.
VideoLan has released version 1.0.2 of everyone’s favorite free and open source VLC Media Player. This new release comes with 64-bit support for Snow Leopard and fixes for SSA decoding, ogg/theora, x264 module and other securities issue. This new version supports Kazakh and Croatian two new languages.
